The simplest way to back up Xero is a service that copies it for you. TradieBridge reads Xero through Xero’s official API, with a sign-in you approve, and keeps 43 resources current in a backup your business owns. A record deleted in Xero stays in your copy, and you can export all of it as JSON, CSV or a Postgres database at any time.

What Xero keeps, and what it doesn’t

Xero keeps your live books and backs up its own service. What it doesn’t give you is a copy of your own: once an invoice is deleted, a contact merged or an organisation cancelled, the old version is hard or impossible to get back. Exporting by hand means many separate reports, each a snapshot of one day.

A full Xero backup, kept for you

TradieBridge copies far more than one report. It holds each record exactly as Xero sent it, and keeps it after Xero drops it:

  • Sales and purchases: invoices, bills, credit notes, quotes, purchase orders and payments.
  • Banking: bank transactions, bank transfers and accounts.
  • Contacts: customers and suppliers, with their groups.
  • Payroll (Australia): employees, pay runs, payslips, timesheets and leave.
  • Reports: month-end reports such as profit and loss and the balance sheet.
  • Attachment details: the name of each attachment and the record it belongs to.

Export all your Xero data

Any member can export a whole Xero copy from TradieBridge as a zip file: JSON for developers, CSV for spreadsheets, or a Postgres database. The copy stays browsable and exportable even after you cancel TradieBridge.

Backup and restore: what to expect

TradieBridge is a backup you can browse and export, not a restore button. It only reads from Xero and never writes back, so it can’t put records into Xero for you. What it does give you, when something goes wrong, is every record it has copied, including deleted ones, ready to look up or export. That makes it one useful part of a disaster recovery plan, alongside your accountant’s own process.

Ask questions your ledger can’t answer alone

With Simpro or Deputy connected too, your assistant can read your books beside your jobs and timesheets:

  • What did we clear on the school job after costs?
  • Do the Deputy timesheets match last week’s pay run?
  • Who took longest to pay us this year?

Questions

Straight answers.

Does Xero back up my data?
Xero backs up its own service so it can recover from a failure on its side. That isn’t a copy you can open, search or keep. If a record is deleted or an organisation is cancelled, Xero’s backup won’t hand it back to you.
How do I back up Xero?
Connect Xero to TradieBridge with a sign-in you approve. TradieBridge copies 43 Xero resources through Xero’s official API into a backup your business owns, and keeps it current for you.
Can I restore Xero from the backup?
TradieBridge gives you a browsable, exportable copy, not a one-click restore into Xero. It only reads from Xero and never writes back. You can find any record it has copied, including deleted ones, and export it all as JSON, CSV or a Postgres database to rebuild or check what you need.
Can I export all my Xero data?
Yes. Any member can export a whole Xero copy as a zip of JSON, CSV or a Postgres database. That covers every record TradieBridge holds, not one report at a time.
Is it a disaster recovery plan for Xero?
It covers one part of one: if records are deleted, access is lost or an organisation is cancelled, the history you already hold stays browsable and exportable. It doesn’t put data back into Xero for you.
What happens if someone deletes an invoice in Xero?
Your copy keeps it. TradieBridge never deletes a record from your backup because Xero dropped it.
Are attachments backed up?
Not yet. TradieBridge keeps each attachment’s details, such as its name and the record it belongs to, but not the file itself.

Back it up tonight. Ask it tomorrow.
